Check out this article/broadcast by Canal Académie about Dai-Linh-Linh. See Vietnam Sounds for a my post when meeting them in 2007. Pretty sweet.

Also, Barley Norton of Goldsmith's in London just finished a film about them that is being screened this Tuesday. Wish I could be there.

spring and summer and winter and fall - through such weather and wear and all the cold hot steam rain mud of this warm warm earth filled with sound - take it, swallow everything until you breathe all of it out in one breath, until your sweat pours from your pores with the sticky salt of strain, until your heart explodes with its beating from the beat of this whirlwind affair that has just begun. take it, take it, it is yours. and give yourself... you will - it will be taken from you because of your core. you are here and always will be in this world alone and a part of the whole. swallow deep, wear down your want, taper the dull fear with the knife of your soul. take it, dear friend.

I recorded my roommate Becky's friend, Mai, singing part of a M'Nong song yesterday. Becky is a linguist - she is asking Mai for some books in the M'Nong language, which are quite rare. here's an excerpt:

Nutida Musik

The Nutida Musik special issue on Southeast Asia is out! my article on Vietnam/Identity is included. if only i understood Swedish...
Here's the press release and cover design:

I've posted a paper written last quarter analyzing gender relations at UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music based on 2 concerts attended in the Fall and other media materials provided publicly by the school. I was glad that my professor for the class and also the school's director, Tim Rice, very much took it seriously.

HERE it is.
